  • It has long been assumed that when cats scratch objects with their front paws they are sharpening their claws. It turns out that this is only a secondary reason. Research on cat behaviour suggests that the major reason for this behaviour is communication. By roughing up the bark of a tree (or the leg of your favourite chair) the cat is letting other cats or people know where she is and what she is up to.
    When scratching is done indoors on walls, furniture or carpeted areas, it can result in considerable damage, owner frustration and sometimes the loss of the home for the cat. It is easier to prevent problem scratching rather than trying to change your cat’s preference for the arm of your sofa after it has become an established habit. Thus, the goal is to establish acceptable scratching habits by getting your cat to prefer a scratching post rather than the arm of your sofa.

Elderly cat solution

Excellent product and excellent company to deal with. Would do so again anytime. For elderly arthritic cats this is the perfect solution to giving them a scratching post and allowing them access to beds and furniture they couldn't otherwise access.

The Raw Products We Source

Triboard - Base and Landings - Triboard is the key to us being able to offer our 10-Year Structural Warranty. It is engineered from 100% sustainable NZ Radiata pine and made in accordance with strict quality and environmental standards [ISO, FSC] It is 3 layered wood panel sandwiched between an MDF outer skin giving it very high resilience and greater stiffness than any similar product. The stable core gives superb load-bearing and screws holding advantages over anything else available.  More expensive but we think essential for our Cat Trees.  

Pine Poles - Upright Poles - Our round uprights are solid NZ Pine which we glue & staple our carpet too.  There are 5 metres of 100mm pine in this Cat Tree

Carpet- We source only Cut pile carpets (Loop pile will catch your cat’s claws) and mostly use NZ made quality carpets. For example, a Cavalier Bremworth carpet can cost over $200.00 a linear metre and we use over 2.25 lineal metres in every New Yorker.   

Sisal - Our Sisal is marine quality and is hand-wound onto our uprights using industrial staples and is there for the cat that thinks it’s a tiger and has an attitude—we think ours is the toughest on the market so bring it on!!!!  Can custom make with more Sisal if required?
